The vineyard path Yvorne - Château d'Aigle - Ollon - Antagne - Le Bévieux - Le Glarey - L'Allex - Chiètre - St-Maurice - Lavey-les-Bains Go up to the village from the halt at Yvorne. At Rennauds turn left to get to the Château Maison Blanche (the White House Manor), an old 17th century building. Follow the road towards Corbeyrier until you reach the hamlet of Vers Morey. From the centre of the hamlet, continue through the famous vineyards of Yvorne in the direction of "Vers Pousaz". You will reach the old "Fontaine" quarter of Aigle. At the start of the road of the Ormonts (the station and train depot for Aigle-Leysin) head for the Château d'Aigle (Aigle Castle), built in the 12th century (now a museum of the vine and wine and an international label museum), and cross the Aigle vineyard towards the Verschiez road. Go through the Grand Plantour forest to Verschiez (Aigle-Le Sépey-Les Diablerets railway stop). Pass along the top of the Verschiez vineyard to the village of Ollon (with its Château and the Aigle-Ollon-Monthey-Champery train station). From Ollon make for the hamlet of Antagnes. There's a wonderful view of the plain below. After the hamlet of Crétel d'Antagnes, take the route for the Bouillet Salt Mines (still active today and with visits possible throughout the year). From Bouillet take the road of the pipes (through the Chêne: "oak" - vineyard) to get to Plantex and Bévieux. (Alternatively: from the bridge over the Gryonne, go down towards Dévens and make a tour around the colline of Montet to look at the gypsum quarry and the sweet chestnut trees). From the middle of Bex set off towards Allex and the Marais nature reserve. After Pelouse (an oecumenical centre) go on to the Dufour Fortifications (19th century military fortresses). From Courset, the stream that separates the communes of Bex and Lavey, follow the right bank of the Rhône to Lavex-les-Bains (a hydrotherapy and spa centre). (Alternatively: from the Dufour Fortifications, go down to the town of St Maurice by taking the footbridge over the main Bex-Lavey road). |
